How membranes are upending chemical separations

Alexander Tullo from Chemical & Engineering News followed up with Georgia Tech Professor Ryan Lively about his previous article “Seven Separations to Save the World”. One of the most difficult separations Dr. Lively identified was separating light olefins from light paraffins.

Tullo spoke with CMS’ Dr. Hannah Murnen about the Optiperm™ solution for light olefin and paraffin separation, a potential breakthrough for the petrochemical industry. Dr. Murnen gave an update on the state of CMS’ current projects as well as shifting attitudes toward membranes in the wider industry.

“There’s a bunch of technologies coming to fruition now, driven by the fact that industry is a little more open and excited by some of these things.” – Hannah Murnen
