The Position

We are looking for a highly effective Process Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of our pilot, demo and commercial systems as we scale to commercial launch. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of ownership, strong collaboration skills, comfort with ambiguity, bias for action, enthusiasm for tech innovations, will be quick to learn, technically strong and able to make data-driven decisions quickly. They will be driven to become the go-to expert. Not afraid of challenges. Always buttoned up. Able to collaborate and coordinate across a start-up organization as well as with Fortune 500 companies.

What you will be doing

  • Design and develop CMS pilot, demonstration and commercial equipment using industry-standard design practices and software tools. Conduct process simulations and modeling to support design decisions and optimize systems.
  • Develop and maintain process flow diagrams, M&E balance, P&IDs, and other technical docs.
  • Perform sensitivity analyses to understand the impact of various system designs, configurations, and operating conditions (i.e., operating pressures, temperatures, recycle rates, etc.) on system performance and economic evaluation.
  • Collaborate across functions (engineering, lab, biz dev, etc.) to ensure system is designed and built to meet customer specs and project objectives and timelines.
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify new tech and best practices in industry.
  • Set the bar for quality and excellence in the product CMS delivers to customers.
  • Mentor and develop colleagues, supporting CMS’ talent development mission.

Position Benefits

The salary for this role will be $82-87k annually. In addition to the annual salary, you will receive:

What you bring to the table

  • At least 5 years of experience in process engineering, preferably in the oil and gas, petrochemical and/or specialty chemical industries.
  • Experience in designing, sizing, costing, and sourcing industrial gas processing equipment (e.g., vessels, heat exchangers, compressors, instrumentation).
  • Strong knowledge of process simulation and modeling software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices (e.g., ASME, API, ISO).
  • Ability to understand the big picture and communicate critical concepts to other teams and management while also sweating the detail and ensuring that the numbers behind those concepts are right.
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as proven self-management capability for daily, weekly, and more long-term tasks and goals.
  • Creative and self-motivated, comfortable with non-routine tasks and engineering changes, and working on multiple projects as a member of several teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas to all members of the organization, at all levels and from different backgrounds and functions.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced and highly collaborative startup environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in in Chemical Engineering or related field.
