The Position

We are expanding our team with ambitious, driven, creative problem solvers and doers who are excited about tackling a challenge and delivering a new product to market. We are looking for someone to lead customer development and acquisition for the Optiperm™ olefins product line as it scales to commercial launch.

The ideal candidate will have a high degree of ownership, creativity, bias for action, enthusiasm for tech innovations, industry knowledge and network, technically strong, able to connect with people and establish credibility quickly, and not afraid of a challenge. Always buttoned up. Manages timeline and deliverables. Able to upward manage, collaborate, and coordinate across a start-up organization as well as with Fortune 500 companies.

What you will be doing

  • Create, own and drive BD execution for olefins solutions: prioritize customer opportunities in a structured fashion, understand and map customer landscape, develop personal relationships in key customer organizations across levels and functions
  • Grow the BD function, including hiring as well as mentoring and developing current colleagues as a part of CMS’ talent development mission
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for strategic partnerships and product offerings to accelerate market traction
  • Lean into a growing organization to build capabilities and execute in adjacent areas: analytics on market approach, product and solution positioning, customer segmentation, marketing materials, etc.
  • Effectively outreach to and communicate beyond customers to technology partners, suppliers, and other stakeholders in the space
  • Use external insights to help shape the internal technical support work
  • Represent CMS at relevant technical and commercial forums across Americas, Europe and Asia to drive and grow brand recognition, customer pipeline and customer/partner relationships
  • Upward manage, collaborate, and coordinate across a start-up organization as well as with Fortune 500 companies
  • Set the bar for quality and excellence in the service and professionalism that CMS delivers to customers
  • Work in a team environment which requires clear communication and listening skills
  • Team management of daily, weekly, and more long-term tasks and goals

What you bring to the table

  • Business development, industrial system sales and capital projects experience with an established network in the petrochemicals space
  • Possesses a fundamental understanding of polyolefin processes and experience working in a process engineering or operations leadership role within the refining and petrochemical industries.
  • Experience selling, servicing and managing contracts within the process industries e.g. (chemical sales engineer, contract service provider)
  • Working knowledge of feed/product pricing mechanisms and ability to recognize potential business opportunities and associated revenue streams.
  • History of pioneering work and/or developing business for a new product or service offering (in a start-up environment a bonus)
  • Creative and self-motivated, comfortable and experienced with being an individual contributor as well as building and leading a team
  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical discipline: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering; MBA a plus
