Marketing Lead

The Position

We are looking for a marketing lead, who will gain a deep understanding of our audience and product, refine our positioning and messaging and product expansion strategy, and communicate about our technology and its benefits to our audience. CMS is working to tackle technical hurdles to decrease the effects of climate change. Our product line is moving through development quickly, and marketing must keep pace. CMS provides decarbonizations solutions for cleaner energy and industrial processes, and you’ll work with the product, technical, and engineering teams to ensure the customer experience drives acquisition and engagement, while reflecting our brand.

This is an individual contributor role today, while the team is still small, but we plan for our marketing lead to scale with our company. Initially you will have product, growth, and other marketing responsibilities. You’ll hire and manage marketers as we continue to grow our team. Given our stage, you’ll both set our product marketing strategy and goals, but also execute on marketing plans and handle the day-to-day work of an early-stage marketing team.

In coordination with the existing CMS leadership, you will be operating as an individual contributor in this role as you scale the commercial team.

What you will be doing

  • Set strategy: Craft brand, messaging, and product positioning that establishes CMS as a leader in the space of decarbonization technology and solutions
  • Design and execute: Develop, prioritize, execute, and iterate marketing and communications campaigns to validate messaging, positioning and expand the customer funnel, incl.
    • Audience: Stakeholder expansion, identification, characterization, and segmentation
    • Product marketing: Development of compelling and differentiated product-related marketing material anchored in customer insight
    • Content strategy: create and deliver the right mix of content to drive funnel growth
    • Events: Coordinating conferences, trade shows, and events as part of multi-channel approach
  • Website: Work with the team to update CMS’ website to ensure the content and design engage the audience and reflect positioning and product value
  • Deliver the message: Evangelize for CMS at events, tradeshows, podcasts, social media, webinars
  • Oversee general communications including press releases and internal communication
  • Partnerships: Manage customer relationships, working with technical, engineering, and operations teams to drive and celebrate partner and customer milestones
  • Support sales: Managing inbound and outbound lead generation to support technical sales
  • Understand the landscape: Competitive analysis and customer discovery in cooperation with BD and CTO

Requirements

  • Prior experience: building a category, brand, product launch, positioning in an international B2B setting in a Series A to C startup
  • Marketing breadth: Top skills in several areas with 5-8 years of functional experience wearing various marketing hats: product, growth, content, social, PR, brand value
  • History with technical products: ensuring the marketing strategy incorporates and addresses a broad set of business goals and stakeholders
  • A linguistic gift: Superior/native English (speaking, writing, presenting) to make complex ideas simple
  • Mission aligned: Willingness to travel and capability to build a global business and an expanding team
